2016 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid

By: Melanie Droz Shawcroft

I was asked at a workshop to share why I do what I do and who motivated me to become an educator. Pretty heavy for a Wednesday, but a typical question asked of those who spend more time with other people’s children than their own. While my colleagues can pinpoint the moment when the light switched on or the first and last name and blood type of the mentor who changed their life, I have to think about this question. No one would have ever guessed I would become a 6th grade Language Arts teacher. I have surprised many people. Much like the surprise of the 2016 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid.

2016-Hyundai-Sonata-Hybrid-kidWe were surprised by the affordable MSRP of the Hyundai Sonata Hybrid at $34,000 and the 40/44 city/highway mpg. In Diamond White Pearl, my 4-year-old son and I enjoyed our weekend together immensely. He was able to experience the power tilt-and-slide panoramic sunroof (only sticking his head out while the car was in park and turned off) and manual sunshades for the rear windows while I blasted the 90’s on SiriusXM and utilized the interactive 8-inch touchscreen navigation system.

After listening to my colleague gush over Mr. Wingar in the 5th grade, it was my turn. I rambled about my love for reading and writing and I joked about how some of my former high school teachers have run into my mom in the neighborhood and chuckled when she let them know what I was up to. However, I was able to finally express my motivation to teach. It’s the kids! The first time a student said thank you, I knew I was in love. Just like I knew I was in love with the Sonata when I heard the battery has a lifetime warranty.sportsmanship-award

I get to do what I love. Even though I do spend a lot of time with other people’s children, I get to appreciate the time with my son even more. Like taking him to school in the morning, watching him score goals on Saturday and win the good sportsmanship award. He thinks I am so cool for being a teacher and even cooler when I drive a car like the Sonata. Even the possibility of winning a $1.5 billion jackpot wouldn’t take me out of the classroom or the 2016 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid.
