CLARITY for the …#redfored

I am sure teachers, parents, students and Arizona residents are looking for some clarity regarding education in our state. In the midst of the Red for Ed movement, the only transparency I have received in the last week came from the 2018 Honda Clarity – this hybrid pug-in clearly offers flexibility, reliability, convenience and so much more. No walk-ins, no walk-outs, no empty promises and no carelessness.

Flexible – While driving the Clarity, I had the option of driving gas or electric with the ability to plug-in anywhere. My trips to and from school were made on battery power alone, even when rushing to get there for an early-morning walk-in. For my longer trip to the State Capitol, I was able to use the VTEC gas-powered engine while the battery charged during cruising. Receiving a 10/10 for Fuel Economy & Greenhouse Gas Rating, the Honda Clarity gets 110 MPG using electricity and gasoline – at this rate, I could have visited all of the schools in the Valley to participate in their walk-ins as well. (42 mpg on gas alone) Not to mention, with an annual fuel cost of $650, I would have a ton of money to spend on school supplies for my classroom.

Reliable – The safety and driver assistance features in the Honda Clarity include Honda Sensing, Lane Keeping Assist System and Road Departure Mitigation. The car nearly drives itself which would not be the case in a classroom without a teacher. Therefore, many districts, while still providing nutritious meals, are canceling school days for the wellbeing of the students. Safety is clearly a priority during the Red for Ed movement, much like the safety features in the Clarity: Vehicle Stability Assist and Side Curtain Airbags with Rollover Sensor are all wrapped up in the ACE Body Structure which strengthened steel is meant to offer more crash protection. The reliability of the 2018 Honda Clarity clearly correlates with the intention of teachers, schools, students, parents and the community.

Convenient – Even though our hope is for a positive outcome, schools are aware that the Red for Ed movement is inconvenient – for teachers, students, families and the community. On the other hand, the Honda Clarity has conveniences for everyone to enjoy. The leather-trimmed interior is comfortable enough to fit five adults – I tried, and we happily piled five teachers wearing red head to toe on the way to the Capitol. We used the large-capacity trunk to hold our signs and the climate control with rear console vents to keep everyone cool. The Clarity also provides luxuries like push-button start, 12-volt power outlets, driver’s 8-way power seat and an elaborate display with controls for navigation, the audio system with 8 speakers, multi-view rear camera, Sirius XM and Bluetooth – just to name a few.

So much more – Of course the 2018 Honda Clarity Plug-in Touring edition has so much more to offer, just like the schools in Arizona would have so much more to offer our students and families if we had the appropriate funding. The exterior of the Clarity is clean and smooth with 18-inch alloy wheels and LED headlights and taillights. It even comes in Crimson Red which would be my color of choice. With an MSRP of $36,600 ($37,490 for the model I drove) which is more than most teachers in the state of Arizona make in one year, the 2018 Honda Clarity is worth it for its flexibility, reliability and convenience. Now if only education was worth it – can you imagine what we could offer?

“I am not walking out on your children, the State of Arizona did that a decade ago.  I am walking FOR your children in a fight to save their schools and to increase funding for their needs.”  #RedforEd
