2015 Mazda MX-5 MIATA

2015 Mazda MX-5 MIATA

A weekend road trip with my hubby in a convertible with no grandkids?! Let’s go! I adore my grandkids and loved the road trip we took to Disneyland this last summer, but a quiet weekend and a drive in a fast, fun car, is surely needed from time to time.

The Mazda MX-5 Miata hit it’s 25-year anniversary in 2015, dominating the affordable sports car market with more than 940,000 sold worldwide in it’s lifetime. It also holds the Guinness World Records title as the best-selling two-seat roadster in the world! To commemorate the last 25 years of driving pleasure, a special MX-5 25th Anniversary Edition was introduced and sold out in less than 10 minutes.

I did not get to drive one of the fancy anniversary editions for my road trip, but the standard 2015 Mazda MX-5 was pretty fabulous. Driving up to Northern Arizona on the open road with the wind blowing through my hair… this is what living is all about.

The MX’s 2.0-liter engine makes the ride smooth and fun. The highly-responsive, free-revving engine produces 167 horsepower at 7,000 rpm when mated to a manual transmission. The automatic-equipped MX-5 has a maximum output of 158 horsepower at 6,700 rpm, and both engines produce 140 lb-ft of torque at 5,000 rpm.

New for 2015, the premium canvas top is available on all trim levels, including Sport, providing consumers with a durable, fade-resistance black canvas option. The soft top is easily operated by a single latch in the center and opens or closes in just 12 seconds. Which was perfect for when we hit a little isolated rain and needed to quickly get the top up!

Dinner in Flagstaff

My husband and I enjoyed a lovely dinner in Flagstaff and then made our way back to Phoenix in the morning. The Mazda MX-5 Miata is totally suitable as an everyday vehicle, but it’s more fun when you can get it out on the open road and really take advantage of the speeding and handling of this sports car.
