LADIES AND GENTLEMEN…. THE SCION tC
Just in case you were wondering, Scion means descendant or heir. Therefore, I decided to go for a spin in this 5 passenger hatchback with two of MY descendants, my grandson and my daughter. The roomy rear seat made taking the child safety seat and my daughter along a breeze. I actually think I would have had enough room for two car seats back there but this was a day for Berrett not the other seven grandchildren. Another reason to take the grandkids is the overall 5 star safety rating, even for the rear seat! So for a sporty-type grandparent, this is a nice fit.
A trip to the circus for Barrett’s birthday was the surprise. I picked him up in the Scion tC and he yelled out “WOW Grandma is that the circus?” I guess to some it might be; considering spacious windows to view everything to the left and right of the center ring of instruments, cup holders for those special drinks, super sound system and lots of fun every time you drive it.
The changes to the 2014 Scion tC are noticeable from the first glance. The front fascia and hood have been restyled, borrowing some styling tips from its sister the immensely popular FR-S, and the addition of new wheels also pumps up the WOW factor.
Next take a peek inside and probably the first item you will notice is the upgraded materials, and the Leather trimmed steering wheel with audio controls. How they have included the following while keeping the MSRP at $20,210 is puzzling; Pioneer sound system with iPod/USB interface, 6.1” touchscreen display, Hands-free phone and music streaming via Bluetooth, remote keyless entry, 60/40 split rear seats, and panoramic moon roof.
If you have either owned or test driven a Scion in the past, you will notice a much smoother ride with the revised transmission and retuned suspension, giving you a sporty, yet smooth driving experience.
There is nothing like experiencing the circus with a child, especially their first time in the audience. Barnum and Bailey have a pre- show event (an hour before show time) that allows the audience to get up close and personal with the performers and the tame docile animals. This is the same as going to your local Scion dealer and test driving the Scion tc to see just how you like it is so you can add it to your shopping list when looking for a car.
While the fuel economy isn’t the best in this class, 23/31 mpg, it is respectable. Perhaps most importantly, this car offers a very high safety rating, in a quick little compact package.
While you may not feel the need for any upgrades on this model, you can add on a Bespoke Navigation touchscreen, which comes in handy when you are on your way to the latest kid-tested ‘hot spot’.
As much as I think it’s a great “grandmobile” I see it as the perfect first car for a young hip driver ready for college or first job.
Safety is very important whether you are protecting two decedents or 200 decedents. I might add, the circus is also a wonderful event for both young and old… like driving the Scion tC… age is just a number.
